Lung surgery is a series of procedures used for diagnosing or treating diseases associated with the lungs. One such procedure for a biopsy when a small amount of tissue is extracted from the lungs of the diagnosis. The second type is when the resection of the lung is removed, while there are other forms of lung surgery aimed at reducing the volume of people the lungs, remove cancerous tumors that have appeared or just improve the person's lung function.
Any lung surgery performed will depend on what the underlying disease or condition, as well as other factors.
Now we will look at types of lung surgery, which can be performed.
- Pneumonectomy. It is usually performed to remove a lung or sometimes only one or more lobes (parts of the lung containing lung tissue, air sacs, ducts, and respiratory bronchiole). It is most commonly used when certain types and stages of lung cancer were diagnosed.
- Torakotomije.Kirurški the incision is performed in the chest by the surgeon and this type of surgery has been used for some other way to diagnose where the problem lies with the person's lungs if other methods failed to provide adequate information.
- Lobectomy. This type of lung surgery when the surgeon removes the person's lung lobe. It is typically used for those suffering from lung cancer, and can be used by people who suffer from cystic fibrosis for whom all other treatments have failed.
- Segmental resection or wedge resection Odjeljka.Segmentna often performed to remove part of the lungs (especially if you want to remove the tumor). While a wedge resection is as its name suggests surgery to remove a wedge-shaped portion of the lung tissue.
- Volume Reduction Surgery. It is much newer types of lung surgery and helps to relieve shortness of breath, and increased exercise tolerance for people. This type of work is especially good for those people suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases such as emphysema.
There are some risks involved, not only in lung surgery, but any major surgery involving general anesthesia, which may include reactions to anesthetics or medications, bleeding, infection and problems of reconstruction of breath. Lung surgery is also added risk of patients getting pneumonia or blood clots.
The outcome of any lung surgery performed will depend on many factors and the severity of the person's illness. However, in general benefit from such surgery is good. People who had a thoracotomy were given a definitive diagnosis in 90% of cases, whereas volume reduction surgery has been shown to relieve some of the symptoms and improving quality of life for some patients who suffer from severe emphysema.
In fact, the mortality rate for those who have lung surgery improves procedures move from the more complete pneumonectomy only lobectomy and segmental resection, where the issue has the lowest rate of all.
